    Comodo Firewall

I have tried and tried with Comodo Firewall and no matter what settings, training mode, etc. I cannot get it to allow another computer on my network to see me, see the shared printer or a shared folder.

I would like to have Comodo installed, but if I can't use my network, well, it's kind of useless. The second I unistall Comodo, the other computer can access the shared folder and printer no problem.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to configure Comodo to allow this other computer and sharing between them in Windows 7?

    Thanks!

are you able to see your network with comodo installed but using the lowest setting of protection?
if you can then its a matter of creating a rule allowing access...
if its not then its comodo itself the problem (firewalls really sink in into the internals of windows so with things on the inside changing its no wonder why it wont crash...)
if its the latter then you might have to look for another firewall or stick to the regular windows firewall (which is pretty good with the added vista firewall control program)

I've tried again and this time decided NOT to disable Windows Firewall after the install. Now the network can be seen properly. WTH? Why would more protection (Windows Firewall running as well) cause it to work? I don't get it. I would have thought the smart thing to do would be to disable Windows Firewall with Comodo installed?

I wanted to go with just Windows Firewall, but when you check out those various sites to see how well you are protected, well, it's not great with just Windows Firewall. With Comodo installed, I received "stealth" mode just about every test I tried. Feel much more protected that way.

Have you tried Stealthing your ports on a per case basis?
Also have you made your local network 'Trusted'? (i.e. other computers on your network can see you)? - This most important.

Have you also tried the Comodo Forums? Quite a few members are using Win7 with the latest CIS and report no issues found.

Yeah, I set the network up several times. Like I said above, it's now working. Go figure.

Thought I would try their anti virus as well just for kicks. Anyone else tried the anti virus? Good, bad, thoughts?

Windows Vista did bring one good thing. A kick ass windows firewall. I found that when you go through control panel and go to Administrative tools, you find something called Windows Firewall with advanced Security. Ive used Comodo Firewall before as well. I loved that firewall to death in XP. But since i discovered the vista firewall (also on Windows 7), i found that it can do everything that Comodo could do, granted it is a bit tedious to get all the rules down. But its well worth it. I am not sure if it also comes with stealth mode. Id have to look around for that one. I use my router for stealth mode though (seeing as how i cannot turn the damn firewall off from there) so i never really went looking for it. Check it out and see if you like it.

Unless you really know what you are doing, running two firewalls at once is not recommended. I know the concept of double security seems enticing, but it can be more headache than comfort. typically when you install third part firewalls, they either prompt you turn off windows firewalls, or they do it on the fly and give you notice that it did so.

you can do create for a device something called a DMZ zone where all unsolicited data goes to...
(meaning all ports not forwarded to another computer will go to that DMZ enabled device)
so it is technically not turning the firewall off but its the closest thing to turning the firewall on one device while keeping your network safe

very true as they are both are installing a kernel and network driver which can interfere with another one active firewall if installed (its even worse with a third party firewall with another third party firewall as even if you disable one the network and kernel driver are usually still active...)
it can also cause weird things to happen...
(such as one blocking the other, messing up the network and not being able to get on the internet, ect)

Try disabling Defense+ and check the 3 options found on the Defense+ Settings page.

To open the settings page, go to the "summary" page and under Proactive Defense, click the button that shows Defense+ Status.

    Good Luck.

I know i have tried the DMZ mode. Unfortunately the firewall still has certain things you cannot turn off. So its easier for me to use the one firewall in my router then, like zay put it, use 2. Ive tried everything to turn it off but no good. Cannot make a counter-strike server anymore. So i just live with it now. It does have good defense though. Stealth is superb. Ive done many tests on my internet connection. As far as DMZ goes... I use it for my Wii
