Hope this is the right place.

Hello all, I am about to purchase my first Windows 7 PC. But before I do I need help with my current XP system. You see last week I had a nasty malware infection that I thought I got rid of. Well today, the day I'm supposed to buy a new Win 7 pc. My goddamn computer gets infected all over again, Same symptoms as before. Unreadable exe files, etc. But now it's worse because I have no internet access on that PC, yet my entire network and the cables are fine. And when I rebooted the Computer the virus deleted my profile. I can no longer log into my xp machine.

Now I need to log into my xp machine to get the various files and folders out. I tried slaving the hard drive and then I tried putting it in an external enclosure. No luck. I read online that it maybe a form of ransomware.

So please if anyone can help please do.

Hello there. I think that the best way to do that,is to boot some Linux distro as Live CD and copy that files you need on some usb stick,or ext hdd.

Hi,

You didn't say which sort of malware you were infected with, so the safest bet in this case is to treat the entire disk as infected.

Insert the hard disk back into the XP computer, and then on a good computer download and burn the F-Secure Rescue Disk. Place that into the CDROM/DVD drive of the XP computer, and boot it up. Follow the prompts to scan for and attempt a repair for malware. Based on what it finds and is able to clean, you should be able to transfer these files to your new PC using an external enclosure.

I would not attempt a transfer from the XP disk to your new PC without knowing what malware you are dealing with.

Regards,
Golden
