Here is a bit of story from the other side of the world..... India.....

Before coming to Middle East I worked for a software company as a senior executive, which also doubled as a call center for some american companies selling mortgages and cruise trips.

The time difference being about 11-13 hours between India and US coast to coast, these call centers usually work from 10 pm till 6am in the morning. The companies recruit youngsters (both boys and girls) who does not have good selling experience except for knowledge of english. I have seen them calling american telephone numbers and trying to sell mortgages. It was pathetic. Their salaries were based on targets, and whom so ever makes most sales, gets more bonus.

There are big IT enabled companies in India like GE, Satyam, Infosys and Accenture, which are doing very good business on call centers and making megabucks.

It was only the small companies which were struggling to meet the ends.

Thought I should give you people a picture on these call centers otherside also....

Thanks for the offer to pay my medical bills left after Medicare paid their share.

I just couldn't take $30K from you though.

Thanks for the generosity to offer.

I remember an Indian lady calling me a few years ago about the infection they had detected on my computer, they were very keen to help me remove it but of course they could only tell me my phone number the computer was connected to and not my IP address. Of course I proceeded to ask where they got my info etc and the call was soon ended at their end of the line.

In India we have top notch BPO and KPO (knowledge process outsourcing) companies that cater to almost all top IT & Technology companies of the world and these few fake call centers are really giving a bad name to all call centers located here.

Just wanted to clarify this from Indian perspective. These few rotten apples are really giving a bad name to IT companies and the excellent work they are doing.

I don't doubt that for a moment, I wouldn't hesitate to call for official help if I needed that kind of assistance. When rogues phone you unprompted with a bogus backstory i suppose it does tarnish the image of reputable companies.

I've just revisited this thread and I see that some of you have really been enjoying yourselves at there expense.
    Good to see..

They are still about, Had another call about 2 months ago, so beware.

Best I had, was just about 20-25mins or so.

Best I heard was from my father, he strung them along for approx 15mins until he said that the computer wasn't connected to the internet at all.
