Please help me!!! very bad virus! Hey there! i didnt know where else to turn to so i figured you guys could maybe help me
i have a toshiba satellite L505D-S5983 and it has a virus of some sort. Lots of popups saying i need to register to fix the problem (i realize its not actully going to fix it.... i am on my Guest login right now, and its oviously not infected. Since i dont have any protection software downloaded, i guess i could just restore the whole thing like its fresh out of the box.
could anyone tell me the steps to get to the screen where i can restore it like its fresh out of the box??
thanks so much guys! | My System Specs |

Recovery information here: Toshiba recovery procedure.
Have you burned any recovery discs yet? If not, you need to make that your first task when you're up and running again. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion Elite 495UK OS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit CPU Intel Core i7 870 @ 2.93GHz Motherboard MSI 2A9C (CPU1) Memory 8Gb Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 664MHz Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GTX 460 1024MB dedicated RAM Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP2310i Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech K750 solar-powered keyboard Mouse Logitech Wireless M180 mouse PSU 460W Case HP Elite Cooling Air cooled Hard Drives 1x1954GB Hitachi HDS22020ALA 330 (RAID), 1x1954GB Hitachi External for backup and storage Internet Speed 2Mb Other Info Pure Avanti Flow Internet Radio with iPod Dock, 64Gb iPod, HP USB Speakers, Sony MDR-V500 Headphones, Sony Vaio F-Series Laptop |

Hi,
You have what is commonly referred to as Rogue/ScareWare : soemthing trying to entice you to part with money to "fix" your PC. Depending on what type it is, you might be able to get rid of it using something like Malwarebytes. Try that first to see what is cleaned up : since you say you don't have any protection software downloaded, I would be very concerned about what other infections you may have.
What type of OS do you have? Full retail, or OEM?

Hi,
Mmm, yes, I agree, it sounds like a clean install is the best option - you should be able to copy your pictures & songs off the disk from the Guest account - can you do that?
Did your Windows 7 comes with the laptop (OEM), or is your Windows 7 a retail version (bought from a shop)? If its an OEM, follow SeaVixens suggestion to do a recovery. If its a retail version, simply boot from the DVD, and during install be sure to format the disk.

Hi, benjiesiegel.
The advice provided by baccini may just do the trick. However, depending on the rogue that is installed, other steps may be needed. It would help if you can provide the name of the rogue trying to get you to register to solve the problem. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 & Windows Vista Ultimate Please help me!!! very bad virus! problems?
