You may want to do this as well

    @Fliplip
Glad that it helped you out. One final point to note. As stated in my previous post, I am sometimes unable to browse another computer on the network by clicking on it's name under My Network Places in Windows explorer and would be forced to access it via \\IPaddress.

With that said, I came across a post, not sure if forum rules allow me to post the link, where the person flushed their DNS and manually added their default gateway to their network connection.

    1) Run CMD then execute "ipconfig /flushdns" (In Windows 7, this must be done in elevated mode (ran as administrator))
    2) In network card properties manually add your default gateway leaving everything else as is.
    3) Reboot machine.

The problem persisted, but it gave me an idea so in addition to that, I added my DNSs manually using my gateway as my first DNS and my ISPs primary and secondary DNS as the 2nd and 3rd. Since doing that this morning, I have not had that issue come up even once and it used to come up often, so please do the same if you experience this problem. You of course can skip this step if your router already provides you with it's own IP address as your primary DNS server. I have my router setup to provide me with my ISP's actual DNS servers.

If you are unsure how to do any of these steps, please let me know and I will provide a detailed guide.

    Good luck

Just saw your post Igster. Try this if you want as I'm pretty sure it's going to work for you. I've been running the whole day without a hitch that's why I haven't posted anything to give it time to test. And if it doesn't work, I promise, "I'll leave you alone"

    Name/IP Address Issue still Exists

Spoke too soon. Just had that issue pop up again. What seems to fix it is having the machines ping one another.

Pinging from XP to Win 7 first always comes back with a timed out message. I always have to ping from Win 7 to XP first then the XP machine is able to ping back. In any case, after I do that, I can access all the shared resources again via \\name. Accessing via \\IPaddress though always works.

I'm away for two weeks with no network to test on, so good luck to everyone and I'll check later to see whether any progress has been made.

    No luck miroesq.

I officially give up. Right now I'm just running Nod32 and Windows Firewall. The pop ups from Comodo were starting to drive me batty as well.

I'm going to wait and see what ESET does with ESS to support Windows 7 and take it from there I guess. Thanks for all your help.

I've been curious about Commodo - you mention the pop-ups drive you crazy. Do they happen all the time? With OSS, I get a pop-up the first instance of an app doing something that's managed, but it creates a rule based on my response and I get no more pop-ups for that situation. Basically I get pop-ups the first day or two, but they're pretty much gone then. I would think Commodo does something similar?

With ESS, I hardly ever saw a pop up in automatic mode, which was nice. With Comodo it seems like the pop ups happen quite a bit more. When I'm installing something, it is very, very annoying. I suppose I could turn it right off then, but that seems silly to have to do that.

I answer yes to the first pop up for an app editing the registry for example when it is installing and have to answer over and over again even though I say remember this answer or always do this or whatever the setting is.

To get rid of a lot of the Comodo pop ups, you need to put Defense + in "Training Mode." That will eliminate 99% of the pop ups. It basically tells defense plus to just learn everything without alerting you. To manage the rest, you need to put the Firewall in "Custom Policy" mode. The firewall will then alert you for every attempt by an app to access the internet, but only the first time. You then either allow access or block it and then you never get an alert from that particular app again (assuming you have the box checked that tells Comodo to remember your selection).

With those settings, you see no defense plus alerts and a few firewall alerts for a couple of days and then basically nothing thereafter, until you install a new app or update an existing app, and then you will get one initial alert when that newly installed or updated app tries to access the net for the first time, giving you the opportunity to set a new rule for Comodo's firewall for that app.

Basically, I think Defense + is overkill (and also quite irritating) that's why I leave it in training mode. But the advantage of leaving it in training mode rather than disabling it entirely is that I can still enable it briefly on those occasions where I'm about to play with something especially risky that I want to keep tight control over.

I'm back to Comodo for a firewall. I'm also ticked off at ESET for apparently telling people that ESET is just fine for Windows 7 (see their forums), even though ESS is NOT.

I've tried so many times, configured over and over again and nope, nothing is working as expected where the firewall is concerned in ESS with Windows 7.

Comodo Firewall works out of the box and works well. I have tested it on various sites for exploits and leaks and Comodo passes all of the tests without fail.

If their anti virus was better, I would contact ESET and ask for my money back for my ESS purchase.

As it stands though, Comodo is FREE and I have to give props. Works very well and while the pop ups may be annoying right now, I'm sure they will get better as rules are learned and I feel much more protected.

    Nice job Comodo.

    Why?

It's a discussion and it's been quite helpful.
