Win7 Firewall Controll (Sphynx) - configuration?

First post on the forum.

I've just moved to Win7 from XP after 7 years of XP, and am using MS antivirus and firewall. I've installed Firewall Controll (free) from Sphynx software, but I'm having problems getting it to work correctly.

The program catches apps wanting outbound access, and if I allow, net traffic is blocked.

Before installation, I changed win7 firewall to block all outbound connections unless a rule existed.

The only way I can get the program to function, is if I set Win7 firewall settings to allow all outbound connections by default.

Is this correct?

Although the website articles seem to have Windows Vista in many of the URLs, which makes me wary of the software, there is information for Sphinx at Windows7FirewallControl : Sphinx Software.

Personally, I prefer the Windows 7 firewall. See this tutorial which illustrates how to add or remove a Windows Firewall program exception: Windows Firewall - Add or Remove an Exception.
