    Personal Shield Pro

My sister has become infected with a Malware that goes under the name Personal Shield Pro

It is a fake anti-virus that preforms fake scans, and insists that you buy their software (probably stealing your information)

It has corrupted windows so badly, it shuts off after a minute of being turned on.

Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute.
So I tried safe mode, Personal Shield Pro managed to open in safe mode too! Once again, even from safe mode Windows shuts itself off in a minute so I can't remove it.

    So uhhhh... how fix?

    Hello Jeremy,

Sorry to hear that. You might see if you may be able to use Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper to boot from the created CD/DVD or USB flash drive to scan your system with at boot to hopefully rid your system of this malware.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Thanks for your response,

The System Sweeper found the viruses, and then got an error code when removing. I forgot the error code (it took 3 1/2 hours to scan) but it said the the drive could not be found.

Any idea why this is happening?

    Hi jeremyleroy96,

Although I've never heard of this particular program, I've done a bit of snooping and found a few fixes that might be worth looking at.

The second sites is temporarily down but it seems to be a ligetimate fix by the looks of things so check again in a few hours time.

Also try using HijackThis. It's made by Trend Micro so it should be reliable. I've included both the downlod link and a Yahoo! Answers link that includes a post that has used the program before. In other words, it contains instructions on how to use it to get rid of the malware.

    Thanks for the reply JaidynM.

I can't do any normal removal attempts because my sister has let it go a bit far. She used the computer while the software was running. It got into some files essential for windows to run, and now shuts off within a minute of use.

Startup repair doesn't fix the issue

You may be at the stage where you need to cut your losses.

Use a linux live disk to back-up any essential data you have and wipe the system and re-install.

When things get beyond a certain point this is often the only way to be sure of repair, and often takes less time in real terms than the removal

We do have several Micosoft MVP's in Security that may be able to guide you through removal so I would advise you wait for their input before you do anything else

Jaidyn, your recommendation for the instructions at Bleeping Computer is good. Note, however, that using HijackThis is only useful if you know what you are doing. Trend Micro didn't develop HijackThis, they purchased it from the original developer and have done very, very little to update the program.

    Hi, jeremyleroy96.

Give your sister the link to Bleeping Computer provided by JaidynM. That should work for her if she follows the instructions as provided. Remove Personal Shield Pro (Uninstall Guide)

    Sorry, I didn't realise.

    @jeremyroy96
If you have another computer, download the files on there and then run your infected computer in safe mode. Then try the Bleeping Computer fix.
