    Mse potentially unprotected

In using Microsoft Security Essentials version 2.0.657.0 with Windows 7 Pro. In download new definitions daily and run a scan weekly, monitoring is turned on. The last two days the icon is burnt orange in color and the program says I’m POTENTIALLY UNPROTECTED. I ran a scan yesterday and one today but still no “green” light. Could it be a recent update? I turned off Malware byte and that didn’t help. If I re-boot I’ll get the green icon but only for a few minutes and then it turns burnt orange. What is happening? Thanks.

I checked for a new version within MSE and none available only to find here that there is a new version. I'll go get it and hope it solves the problem.

Well excuse me. You just said "scan" and didn't specify what type in your original post. No need to yell.

You may wait to hear from someone else here or see if it fixes itself but I did find this:

Do you run CCleaner? With their latest upgrade they added a MS Antimalware to applications. It is checked by default. It cleans out the MSE logs so MSE thinks you haven't run a scan.

When I got the "potentially unprotected" warning I was pulling my hair out. Tried numerous things including installing the upgrade and was about ready to uninstall/reinstall when I found out. I feel Piriform should have done a bit more homework before they implemented this.

    Yes, Thanks for the info,

    The Fix

CCleaner deletes the log files from scans made by MSSE. To disable this behavior, deselect the MS Antimalware option under Applications -> Windows

Glad it worked. You may have to update definitions manually and run a manual scan to refresh the logs. Mine is still trying to get back in sync.

See reply above - upgraded yesterday thinking that would solve the problem. All seems okay now, thanks again.
