Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 Since TrendMicro turned out not to play well in 64 bit (at least on MY new system) I'm looking for a more capable replacement than MSE. Kaspersky is rated pretty highly.
what's SevenForums opinion on Kaspersky?

Been using Avira Antivirus Free edition for years now and have yet to be infected with anything since I started using it. There certainly have been attempts, but nothing has been successful. It has a very good heuristic engine. | My System Specs | | OS XP / Win7 x64 Pro CPU Intel Quad-Core Q9450 @ 3.2GHz Motherboard Asus P5-E Memory 2x2GB GSkill DDR2 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS (EVGA) Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408WFP Screen Resolution 1920x1200 |

Kaspersky and PC Tools appear to be the top 2 choices by a half hours intense research. hehe.
I was chattin' with the fellow in the local PC shop recently and mentioned the I'd never been infected w/anything using the Trend Micro. He sez...' that you know of ' ponder that.... lulz | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS W7 64bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition @3.9GHz Motherboard ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX AM3 Memory 8GB Corsair Vengeance 8GB PC15000 DDR3 1866MHz CL9 Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX 460 1GB DDR5 Sound Card ...On MB nvidia Monitor(s) Displays ..Samsung T260 Screen Resolution 1440 x 900 Keyboard walmart Mouse Kensington Expert Mouse "gods own trackball" PSU 750 W Case minitower, it's got a cool spider design on the front Cooling all the fans i can cram in, water cooled cpu Hard Drives 2x WD Caviar 320GB SATA-3G HD 7200/16MB/SATA-6G Raid 1 Internet Speed 30 Mb/s |

LOL..so..i see there's no consensus among 7forums ppl. I guess that answers my specific question. Not gonna get out of having to do the research myself here. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS W7 64bit CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Black Edition @3.9GHz Motherboard ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX AM3 Memory 8GB Corsair Vengeance 8GB PC15000 DDR3 1866MHz CL9 Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX 460 1GB DDR5 Sound Card ...On MB nvidia Monitor(s) Displays ..Samsung T260 Screen Resolution 1440 x 900 Keyboard walmart Mouse Kensington Expert Mouse "gods own trackball" PSU 750 W Case minitower, it's got a cool spider design on the front Cooling all the fans i can cram in, water cooled cpu Hard Drives 2x WD Caviar 320GB SATA-3G HD 7200/16MB/SATA-6G Raid 1 Internet Speed 30 Mb/s |

Instead of the 2011 version, go with the 2012 update, either anti-virus or internet security. I've been using Kaspersky for about two years now and never had any infections or stds of such matter.
The 2012 version performs WAY better than 2011, it's less system intensive than ever! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number ASUS OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Athlon 240 II @ 2.8-4.004 ghz Motherboard M4A78LT-M LE Memory SuperTalent 4gb DDR3 Graphics Card ATI Radeon 3000HD Screen Resolution 1440*900 Case Re-modded Dell Dimension 4550 Cooling Vantec 92mm Tornado x2 Other Info It looks pretty. |

I use KIS 2012 (patches A and B) and it works great, less resource intensive, and is stable under windows 7. I also run Immunet Protect 3.0.2, Secunia PSI 2.0, and I have SNORT 2.9.0.5 running in OpenSUSE 11.4 under VirtualBox which is monitoring all the inbound and outbound traffic on my home network (thanks to my Buffalo WHR-G54S running DD-WRT v2.4 pre SP2 (Build 14929). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Athlon II X4 630 Motherboard ASUS M3A76-CM Memory 8GB DDR2 PC-1066 Graphics Card nVidia Geforce GT240 (1GB GDDR3) Sound Card Via Audio (On-Board) Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 205BW Screen Resolution 1680x1050 (32-bit) Keyboard HP Wireless Comfort Desktop Mouse HP Wireless Comfort Mouse PSU OCZ Fatal1ty 550W 80 Plus Case Thermaltake Lanbox Lite Cooling Stock Heatsink/Fan Hard Drives 1TB Seagate (ST31000340AS)

i've also been using the full kaspersky internet security suite happily for years (although i did have a brief flirtation with mse for a month or two), and have had no malware trouble yet.
it has served me well, and the latest 2012 version is the best yet.
however, the only way to find out if you like it is to test it yourself - they have a 30 day trial. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number mickey megabyte 1234 OS ultimate 64 sp1 CPU i5 2500K 3.3@4.2GHz Motherboard MSI P67A-GD53 Memory 8 gigs GSkill Ripjaws 1600 Graphics Card amd hd6950 Sound Card creative x-fi gamer Monitor(s) Displays samsung 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard saitek eclipse ii Mouse logitech g3 PSU antec 550 Case antec three hundred Cooling i'm a cooling fan Hard Drives ocz vertex 2e 60 gig, samsung f3 1tb, buffalo 2tb ext Internet Speed about 4 Mbps Other Info i love win7 |

FYI, for those users of KIS 2012, patch 'C' has been released for general consumption. It will require a reboot after being pulled down from the regular update servers.
Issues fixed - Scans of some SSL encrypted sites wasn't working, high CPU usage when visiting some URL's, and optimization fixes as well. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Athlon II X4 630 Motherboard ASUS M3A76-CM Memory 8GB DDR2 PC-1066 Graphics Card nVidia Geforce GT240 (1GB GDDR3) Sound Card Via Audio (On-Board) Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 205BW Screen Resolution 1680x1050 (32-bit) Keyboard HP Wireless Comfort Desktop Mouse HP Wireless Comfort Mouse PSU OCZ Fatal1ty 550W 80 Plus Case Thermaltake Lanbox Lite Cooling Stock Heatsink/Fan Hard Drives 1TB Seagate (ST31000340AS)
