Backspace button does what it wants

I have windows 7, today I noticed that when I am typing something (anywhere ie google, word etc) it gets deleted (almost as if someone is pushing the backspace key). Also, when I open a program (ie inetrnet explorer, program manager etc) the program automatically goes back / previous (almost as if someone is pushing the back button). I have run Microsoft Safety Scanner, and my antivirus is up to date and says there are no reported issues. This is nearly making my computer unusable. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Did you try a different keyboard? It sounds stupid, but I had a similar problem awhile back and it turned out to be a sticky key. It wouldn't happen for awhile and then would do it constantly.

Hello introubl and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you accidentally click the "insert" key on the keyboard?

^^ This. Try a different keyboard, some food particles may have gone into the keyboard accidentally and made a mess of things.

I think there's a certain "joke program" that does that. Anyone else have access to your PC?

Best bet - as suggested, try a different KB, if the problem persists, it's likely software related.
