    Another mistake

Anyway, why would you trust any allegedly independent report 100%? How can you be sure that they haven't received "incentive money" from any of the big corporations to use a more approving language in their reviews? Use them as a something to start with if you want to. After gauging pros and cons from user reviews and ignoring the cherry picked flaws (which are probably PEBKAC) you'll find something which suits you.

Believe all you read & see? No way!

IMHO tis far better to do your own research re the "facts /statistics/ evidence tested" & presented > view any AV Software that might appeal > read the Company blurb about the product > then make up your own mind about what is considered appropriate.... or otherwise.

You can look at 20 different test results from 20 different places and get 20 different answers.

As JMH said, whatever you feel comfy with. And a little added common sense never hurts either.

Members offer advice based on what the poster appears to require.
Not everyone recommends that people refer to the Test Results as indisputable evidence.
In fact on many occasions they are ignored absolutely.
The Test results are but a guide & people can use them as they see fit!

The last time I wanted to buy a new truck, I read a lot of "independent" test reports. But it wasn't until I actually drove the various trucks that I was able to make up my mind which was best for me.

Same thing with AV tests. Until you test drive them yourself, you won't be able to make an educated decision as to which one is best for you. You can spend weeks (if not months) trying out all the freebies and then even more time on the paid versions that offer a free trial period. Use test reports to help guide you but don't rely on them 100% because no anti-malware product is going to be 100% effective 100% of the time. If there was such a product we'd all be using it.
