Turn off MSE

Is there a way I can turn off MsMpEng.exe off for system startup. Its annoying how it eats up all my cpu and ram all the time, and would rather just have it open when I need it.

But I don't see a startup entry for it.

It sounds like it is scanning at startup. Read this page, and the previous page he referred to may take care of this for you.

Revisiting MsMpEng.exe Antimalware service executable high resource usage

I'd just start with checking the option in the MSSE Settings tab, under Scheduled Scan:

“Start the scheduled scan only when my computer is on but not in use”

Yeah, sounds like it's configured to do a startup scan. I run MSE and never notice it doing anything on system startup.
