AVG trial version wont work on my Windows 7 pro

I have just received an HP 620 compaq laptop with Windows 7 pro on. I dont know very much about anything techy and I want to find a free anti virus thats works on Windows 7 pro.

I have used AVG free download before so decided to go with that, but for some reason I cant get it to download, infact for some reason I cant even get the page to load. So I went with the trial version while I sort it out.

Once loaded I then tried to open IE and it just wont open, so I have had to uninstall AVG and now it works ok, but I have no anti virus.

Does anyone have any suggestions of another free anti virus that works on Windows 7 pro?

    Many thanks

When you download it, you need to 'save', don't click run!

Once it's been saved, (it should be in your Downloads Folder) right click on the file to run it as Administrator. Give it access if UAC asks, to download updates, then you can click scan.

    AVG free anti virus

Thank you both for your replies. What I really want to do is load the free AVG anti virus rather than just the trial, but I cant get the page to load from either of my laptops.

It will load the AVG page but the only option on there is to buy it. I am new to this and not not sure what other free anti virus would be good to use and not muck up my laptop.

Have a look at this one see how it works for you. Many people here use this - http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/secur...s/default.aspx

    Avg anti virus

Many thanks Danny I will do that. Should I put anti malwyre on as well? sorry if I am asking stupid things but I so dont know what I am doing with anything on a laptop.

I did have someone who use to do it all for me, but he so hates Windows 7 he wont have anything to do with it, so now I am stuck and will have to learn as I go along, which isnt easy.

    Thanks again

My advice install Malwarebytes free version as a on demand malware scanner - http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free Use this as an on demand scanner ie doesn't run in the background, you have to update it manually and scan maybe weekly/monthly whatever your comfortable with.
