    Gdata Antivirus allowing false-positives

    Hello,

So lately I've been using an anti-virus program called G-data TotalCare 2012. I really like it better than the AV programs I've used before, like Norton, PC-Tools, AVG etc.

However there is a slight problem I REALLY need help with. It detected a false positive not too long ago and I noticed that it doesn't give me any option to allow it or just log it, I HAVE to block access or delete it in some way. And I can't find any list to add the file to.

I've already contacted the support for this, but they seem to take their time, so I thought I'd make a thread here, hoping for the best, seeing as G-data doesn't have their own forum.
So if anyone have any idea what to do, other than changing/removing the anti-virus, please tell me. ♥

    Thank you,
    A*nonymous

    Hi,

False positives do occur in any malware suite. The safest thing to do is to ensure that it is indeed a false positive (you never said what made you sure it was a false positive) and do a scan with another malware suite.

Try the free version of Malwarebytes and lets make 100% sure it is a false positive.

    Hello Golden,
    Thank you for replying,

The issue isn't if it's a FP or not, I would also want to have the ability to allow a real virus, why else give me options if all those options doesn't include to allow it?
However the file is kinda private and it's something I for sure know is not a virus. If it would turn out to be infected then at least it's not the source of the virus as it's my own project and I have no idea how to create a virus, which is why I find it hard to believe that it's actually a virus.
Yeay I'm looked out of my little project, I honestly find it a bit funny, unless I can't get it fixed within a week or so.

TL;DR: I'm pretty sure it's a FP, even if it's not it doesn't matter, I want to be able to allow it. Do you perhaps know how?

    Thank you,
    A*nonymous

EDIT: Okay.. so for some weird reason I now have access to my file... Which I am of course happy about! However, I didn't do anything to allow it.. So my question still stands, how do you allow a file that has been marked as a virus?

    Thank you,
    A*nonymous

    Hi,

It should allow you to add some sort of exceptions to what it monitors. Is there anything under a Settings button that might allow that? Can you post an image showing the menu items under a Tools or Settings option for GDATA?

    Hi,

Please refer to the manual here:

Manuals - G Data Software AG

And then look at Settings starting on page 17. The important bit is on page 19 : you can specify a particular file/files to add to the scanning exceptions.

Click New... in the Exceptions for on-demand scan window.
Select type of exception (drive, directory or file).
Select a directory or drive to exclude. To exclude individual files, enter
the file name in the appropriate field at the bottom of the window.
    Wildcards may also be used.

    Wildcards work as follows:
The question mark (?) represents any single character.
The asterisk (*) represents one or multiple characters.
For instance, in order to protect all files with the file extension ".sav,
enter *.sav. In order to protect a special selection of files with
    sequential file names (e.g., text1.doc, text2.doc, text3.doc), enter
    text?.doc for example.

his can be repeated as often as needed to add more exceptions. Existing exceptions can be edited or deleted.

Apply exceptions to idle scan: As opposed to the manual virus scan during which the whole system is scanned
for viruses, the idle scan is an intelligent solution that constantly checks all files for any infections. The idle scan,
like a screensaver, only starts if the computer is idle and is paused instantly once the user starts interacting with
the system again. Enabling this option applies the same exceptions to the idle scan that have been set for
    manual virus scans.

    Regards,
    Golden
