Yes how ever one of my pc have no av or any realtime scanner and i use mbam on demand window firewall and system image with sensible use and even not get a single infection from last three years
Yeah which just goes to reinforce in a way my thoughts on your grazing habits lol!!
    Same.

Add Sandboxie (and a little knowedge of how sandboxie works) and many people (the ones who have enough common sense to be their own front line defense) would not need a realtime AV.

Yeah agree Kron but you have to remember there are a lot of people who just cannot recognise malware when you have it cornered. I am no great expert but I would not be trusting my machines to just Sandboxing and good judgment and I have been "playing" for many years.

I still think one of the freebies is better than nothing and I have used quite a few over time. Plus what have you got to lose? - a little longer boot up but if that what floats ones boat then it really is an individual choice.

My own personal feelings are what are ten seconds longer boot gonna make to your day?.

Don't get me wrong, I would never recommend to anyone that they should run without realtime AV protection. Simply that it is an option for people who know what they are doing, and have a threat model that doesn't require it. If they don't know how to recognize malware, I wouldn't leave that decision in their hands.

I have seen boot times increase by a full minute, but boot times are not the only thing that is affected with a real-time scanner, though. I have seen a folder access times add 10 seconds per folder on some machines. (10 seconds before files are unlocked by the anti-virus) Granted these are extreme examples.

    Hi guys,

After reading this thread I'm a little confused if I have enough security protection.

Currently I have a router firewall and Windows Firewall turned on.

I also have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and running.

Do I need to do anything else?

Here is an excellent website that explains in everyday english how to use the security features already built into your computer to make your computer vastly more secure than just useing any popular antiviruus by itself.

I wish this page was required reading for everyone with a computer.

Please take a moment and check it out..

Hiyya Paranoid from an old ex Sussex pat down under and welcome.

Mate I am a bit like you when it comes to security but being a KIS addict for the last three years (have tried and tested many other suites) I have come to find that KIS does NOT like other security stuff on with it - even if it does say so. Plus most folks will tell you that running tow AV's together is just not a good idea - too many conflicts.
Now you have the absolute right to use whatever you please but if you can take a tip from an old codger like me then get rid of or disable the Cyberscrub and downgrade the MBAM to the free version - I've included a pic that most of us down here use for scan settings in MBAM the Pro version from personal experience does not gel with KIS.

I don't know how you have KIS config'd but if you contact me I can put you onto a great setup done by a great fellow out here who did a LOT of research on just that.

Sandboxie I'd be using on as needs basis and you have a safe run in KIS in any case - which can be set to run your online financial and confidential stuff automatically.

Anyway welcome again to the greatest forum in the world!
