Starting from "outside" enable the Router firewall.
Go to...Start\Control Panel\Network and Sharing Center, right click on the router icon and click View device webpage, find the firewall\configure,select standard,Apply and exit.

can you tell me how to do this for Windows 7? I'm not seeing a router icon

If you have a web address to enter the router settings it is the same thing.

    e.g. 192.168.1.1

Some very good suggestions. WOT is a good service but is based on user opinion. Norton has a free service that I believe is better. You can also use both.

Norton Safe Web, from Symantec - Safe Websites | Norton Safe Web Lite

    Check it out.

unfortunately norton safe web lite is incompatible with ff 9.0.1
i suspect it will be updated soon.
Looks like Norton is working on replacing it with a new toolbar.

Another way to get there is by typing the router IP address in your web browser.""

Thanks profdlp and Phone Man :)
