I've looked into services and BFE DOES NOT populate the list. I cannot find it on the services list.
    Hi, jhnjns.

    Please download RestoreBFE.exe from: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...RestoreBFE.exe
Double-click on the downloaded file. It should only take a few seconds to run.
When complete, it will say .. "Done! Please check if BFE service is running now"
I have the same problem :/ I tried to download RestoreBFE.exe but got this error:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

A little background with why I'm having these problems... I did have a run-in with a nasty re-directing virus. I was able to get it fixed (needed a little help from one of my more savvy friends), and since then I've been having BFE problems.

    Please help!!!

However, when i try starting the service it says Access denied. I need Help
Also it seems the malware has disabled windows Updates service entries too like "windows Update",Event log, background intelligence transfer service! how do i get those back?

I registered to thank you Corrine for the BFE restore program . . . and everyone else too. I read through everything, followed links, took advice that pertained, and BFE is working again. Thanks again.

Corrine has since been banned, so what is the more reliable solution FROM an ACTUAL Microsoft Community person or employeee?
I have restarted a machine that has been off since July 2012, and installed a new Liquid cooler. I did attempt a factory reset with the Reinstall DVD, but kept getting the file missing error:

Windows cannot install required files error 0x80070570
The file may be corrupt or missing.. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart installation.
This from a DVD that was just opened after four years of storage. ????

I did uninstall AVG and ZoneAlarm, and do a System Restore, and ever since doing that the BFE service has vanished.
Currently running MalwareBytes again (results are clean) and SFC. SFC result:

    "C:\Users\Paul James Chatman>SFC /SCANNOW

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of th
    em.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"

Redaing the log I see A LOT of this:

"Ignoring duplicate ownership for directory [l:102{51}]"\??\C:\...."

    And this:

    "33: Move File: Source = [l:226{113}]"\SystemRoot\WinSxS\Temp\PendingRenames\9d7ccd28f8d5d001300a00003c03fc17.$$_system32_nb-no_53b700d66b352886.cdf-ms", Destination = [l:138{69}]"\SystemRoot\WinSxS\FileMaps\$$_system32_nb-no_53b700d66b352886.cdf-ms""

    Ending with this:

"2015-08-13 11:57:55, Info CSI 00000341 [SR] Repair complete
2015-08-13 11:57:55, Info CSI 00000342 [SR] Committing transaction

2015-08-13 11:57:55, Info CSI 00000345@2015/8/13:18:57:55.642 CSI perf trace:

2015-08-13 11:57:55, Info CSI 00000346 [SR] Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired"

However, what this tells me is not clear. The BFE is still absent.
