    Bitlocker Drive Encryption OS Start up problem


    Hey guys I have a desktop That has Windows 7 Ultimate edition installed. My parents are having start up issues with the OS. When the OS starts up, Bitlocker Drive encryption Recovery comes up with and option to unlock 2 Drives which is a separate hard drive. it comes up with a recovery key of 4889F7FD. I manually type the key and click the M: Drive which is the recovery OS. It says Error Recovering Disk due to no recovery key. I click Back and it comes up with a different recovery key as F9F25CA2. If both drives have the same password would the recovery key be the same. The bitlocker says I have temparary access but doesnt log me in.

    When I go to safe mode, It loads half the files and comes up with the same. Start up recovery cant fix it. when I login to safemode, it loads half the files. Does this sound like a system wipe or can I fix this with a WIndows 7 Disc.

    Hello Zhall, and welcome to Seven Forums.

    The key number ID it gives you is only to help you reference what BitLocker Recovery Key is the correct one to enter. I sure hope that you saved or wrote down the actual BitLocker Recovery Key for that drive somewhere in case something like this happens. Without it, you're not going to be able recover the HDD very easily.

    Check using the tutorial below to see if you may have the actual BitLocker Recovery Key somewhere, and how to recover the OS drive.

    I have the key. Thats not the problem. I cannot start up the PC due to an error in Start up. Then error looks like this.

    System Disk =\Device\harddisk0 <====== System hard drive Disk.
    D:\windows
    Root Causes = 1

    Could I delete the D:\windows in the command prompt in the system recovery options and copy them from the windows 7 CD.
    How would I do this with the prompt

    Zhall,

    See if you may be able to use OPTION TWO in the tutorial to unlock and decrypt the OS HDD on another computer. Afterwards, place the HDD back in the original computer to see if you area able to boot from it again. If so, then you could encrypt it with BitLocker again if you like.

    It seems like I cant log in at start up due to a problem with bitlocker. I type the key which was printed out 2 weeks ago and it says I have Temporary Access and the Recovery Key Identication changes to something else. I type the same key and it said not correct key. Maybe my parents got a virus and the registry got hit.

in System Security

While using BitLocker Drive Encryption feature, i selected the settings for using the USB to store the security key. But, once I restarted my PC, BitLocker didn't recognized the USB and went into recovery mode. Can anyone suggest as to why the USB key was not taken into consideration?
