I'm on Windows 7 Pro X64 (Legitimate via MSDN AA)
When UAC is enabled, to get 90% of programs to run, I have to "Run as administrator".
When UAC is disabled, applications don't work whether or not I "Run as administrator".
Why is this happening, why am I unable just to double click the icon. Why when UAC is disabled will nothing run!?

Hello Alex, and welcome to Seven Forums.
As a workaround for now, you can use OPTION THREE or FOUR in the tutorial below to set them to always "Run as administrator" so you do not have to manually do it each time you want to run the program.

Was this a clean or upgrade install?
What type of programs are these? (ex: utitilty, games, etc....)
As a test, you might see if doing a repair install may help.

Hey, it was a clean install (not an upgrade).
I completely reinstalled Windows 7 again assuming it was a botched install (and formatted). So, again, with UAC enabled, the only way I can get apps to open (everything including Firefox, Windows Live Messenger and WinAmp) is to "Run as administrator".
When I disable UAC, there is simple no way to run applications. They just don't work, regardless of whether I "Run as admin" or not. I just can't understand what is causing the issue?

What build of win 7? 32 or 64, where did you get your ISO? How did you burn it? Im assuming you have upgraded your bios, and all the other usual things.

I have the latest F9 BIOS for my motherboard. The ISO was from MSDN Academic Alliance and is the X64 variant.
I burned it at 8x speed with Alcohol Tools in Windows Vista Business X64.

Upgrade from vista might be problematic, fast burn slight possibility. It just seems like a permissions problem and wouldn't know where to start looking for it. At some point in time you should probably start thinking abt a clean install, but Im up for continuing till you call it

You might see if redownloading the ISO and burning it at a slower speed, then installing it may help.
It was a blank install. I formatted the disk with Vista on prior to installing. Hell, I even installed Win7 a second time clean and still the same issue!!!
I still have the ISO, but I reduced the DVD burn speed from 22x to 8x thinking that amount of a slow down would be enough!
I was under the assumption Win7 was meant to be more friendly than Vista, but so far, i've had more issues with Win7 than I did when installing Vista for the first ever time!
Found the issue. It's my sound card drivers cause UAC errors. It's the .exe's that convert EAX language to whatever Asus soundcards use on the fly.
So it means disabling EAX for now.
