How Do I Stop My System From Answering ICMP Ping Requests ?? I've already made a rule for inbound requests, but it doesn't seem to be working.
Ran a security check at grc.com and the reply to a ICMP ping was the only problem.
Everything else was "stealth."

My apologies, but the post you refer to wasn't made when I opened this thread.
Perhaps you might consider it relevant to explain exactly how you are connected to the web in your particular case, it will help people to help you.
You are using a software firewall I'd imagine? Just add a rule or two to it that prevents anyone outside your LAN from pinging you. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Logitech M500 Laser Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Twin 1Tb Barracuda archivage, Twin TV/PVR 2Tb Samsungs, (80Gb Barracuda for the OS, but SSD envisaged...) I apologize for my outburst.
I'm using Windows Firewall only. I made an inbound rule to block all ping requests, which apparently, doesn't work. I'm assuming the rule is being ignored because my
system couldn't answer a ping request if all inbound pings are blocked.
I connect to the net with DSL - phone jack to modem - modem to computer.
Let me know if you need any further information. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CPU AMD Phenom II 945 Motherboard GA-880gm Memory 8GB Corsair Graphics Card Radeon HD 6670 Sound Card Onboard Monitor(s) Displays Hanns G 25" PSU Antec 350W Case Antec Cooling Stock Hard Drives Samsung 500GB |

Control Panel / Windows firewall / Advanced settings (on left side) / Inbound rules / New rule (on right hand side) then choose "Custom" and next, now click "Protocol and ports" and in the "Protocol type" box select "ICMPv4" - then the "customize" button to allow you to select which types of ICMP ping you wish to block... click next, if you want to specify IP addresses do so now... otherwise choose "Block the Connection" in the following screen, then follow the on screen steps, name the rule, and save it... you should now be done... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Logitech M500 Laser Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Twin 1Tb Barracuda archivage, Twin TV/PVR 2Tb Samsungs, (80Gb Barracuda for the OS, but SSD envisaged...) You're welcome, but do bear in mind you may need ICMP for certain websites which you interact with, and for internal networking as its function can be used to calculate dropped packets as well as sometimes being used maliciously by worms for flood DDOS attacks. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Logitech M500 Laser Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Twin 1Tb Barracuda archivage, Twin TV/PVR 2Tb Samsungs, (80Gb Barracuda for the OS, but SSD envisaged...)
