I'm doomed So I got an message from my AV saying that I had an Trojan horse and i should put it in my valt, so I did. About 15min later my computer restarted itself, and before it got to the starting windows bit, it said missing operating system. I tried doing a start up repair, and it said it was repairing some disk and it would take an hour to fix. After about a minute it said there was an error. I don't know what else to do. Im guessing i have no operating system, does this mean all my files are gone?? I have nothing to back up with so I had no back up.
Any help welcome | My System Specs |

Well, if you have kept an image of the C drive then now is the time to restore it.
If you have not then instead of struggling to repair the System just clean reinstall Windows. That is because I hold the view that no repaired system is better performing than a clean install. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Windows 7 Pro with SP1 32bit Motherboard Intel D845GVS1 X86-based PC Memory 2 gigs of RAM Graphics Card Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller Sound Card Realtek AC'97 Audio Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 931BF Black 19" LCD Monitor Screen Resolution 1280X960 Keyboard COMPAQ Standard PS/2 Keyboard Mouse iBall Laser Precise Speedster Hard Drives 1. Do you have any usb devices plugged in (like a flash drive) sometimes a system will try to boot from it and you'll get that error or if you have a CD in the drive and your CD/DVD drive is the first drive. Go into the BIOS and make sure your hard drive is in the boot loop.
If you have another computer you can pull the suspect hard drive, install it in an external enclosure and run chkdsk /r on the drive and also scan it for viruses. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number MSI OS Windows 7 Professional 64bit CPU Intel Celeron 2.4 GH Memory 4 GB Graphics Card NVidia GeForce 9800GT Sound Card ATI HDMI Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer S231HL Dual Monitors Keyboard Logitech wireless Mouse Logitech wireless Cooling Standard Hard Drives Hitachi 300GB ATA

Mitch,
Sometimes it can take up to 3 attempts at Startup Repair before it "takes". Keep trying it a few more times to see if gets you any further.
Post back here if you need more help.

As already stated, if the repair does not work do a clean install and don't waste hours on struggling to fix a hosed OS. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop OS win 7 Pro 64 Sp1 CPU 3570K Motherboard Asus Sabertooth Z77 Memory 2 X 4gb Gskill DDR3 1866 Graphics Card Asus HD7870-DC2-2GD5-V2 Sound Card ALC892 8-Channel High Definition Monitor(s) Displays 2 X Dell 1908FP Screen Resolution 1280 x 1024 Keyboard Saitek Eclipse KYB Mouse Logitech MX-518 PSU Pc Power and Cooling 850 SSI Turbo Case Lian Li Pc7b-modded Cooling TTWaterPro2 Hard Drives Kingston SSDNow V 64GB x 2 Raid0 /

Mitch,
I too think you should do a clean install, BUT, you might try to fix the computer if you are interested in saving your data.
Did you do the suggested 3 startup repairs? You can try an sfc scan: SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot (by Bare Foot Kid). | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron M5040 OS Windows 8 Pro with Media Center x64 CPU AMD E-450 APU 1.65 GHz Memory 4GB Graphics Card Built-in Radeon HD 6320 Graphics Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 Cooling fan Hard Drives 500GB Internet Speed 2.86Mbps Download Speed, 2.85Mbps Upload Speed & 26ms Ping Antivirus Defender Browser IE10 |

I'm trying to do 3 repairs now, and I will do the command prompt later today when I get back from my part time job.
I doubt any will work, because in the windows installer it doesn't show any windows installed at all. It's like the virus uninstall it | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit CPU Intel Core 2 duo E7200 @2.53GHz 2.27GHz Motherboard Gigabyte EP43DS3 Memory 4GB Ram Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 800 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000 |

I take it this means you don't have any backups of your data?

Nope. I'm not wasting my money on an externial haha, and then mum doesnt want to waste like $50.
I did use to half my hard drive and make backup, but then there was to much data, that doing a backup and having windows left like no space.
Its not that much important data tho, just music and family photos... :\
There is this company that i always hear this add on the radio, that say that can recover data, that other companies cant.... but the thing is are they legit and stuff | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit CPU Intel Core 2 duo E7200 @2.53GHz 2.27GHz Motherboard Gigabyte EP43DS3 Memory 4GB Ram Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 800 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000 All times are GMT -5.
