Anti virus and shut down issues

Hi, I have an odd and very frustrating problem that has not been fixed with clean reinstall of Windows. It's only a niggle but it has puzzled me for years.
If I install anti virus software on my 64 bit windows 7 pc, whenever I shut it down from the start menu I get a critical "windows was not shut down properly" in action center. technical details just says "last shutdown was unexpected"
There is nothing in event viewer! I do not get the start in safe mode prompts, in fact, the only issue is the action center log?
I get this with the following programs: Kaspersky 2012. Avast. Dr Web. Norton.
I do not get it with: Eset v4 or MSE.
I have no other realtime software running. Bios is latest. all drivers are up to date.
I'm guessing this is a service hang of some sort?
I ran sfc /scannow no problems, I ran Kaspersky get system info which had no issues at all. I hate issues like this, any ideas?
    system is:
Amd 940 clocked to 3.4gz by multiplier
    2 X 2 gig ddr3 8500 ram
    MSI platinum
    295 gtx (latest drivers)

Are you using more than one anti-virus product at the same time?

    Doing so can cause conflicts.
