user account control showing microsoft as untrusted

    Hi,

I have a strange problem.Whenever i use rightclick and select "run as administrator" on a program that is part of the windows os uac pops up showing microsoft as untrusted publisher. It works as it should on other software never had this happen before does it mean there signature is expired or something ??

sfc /scannow is in progress but that is so damn slow

yeah good idea to run sfc /scannow but I would also try updating windows updates after sfc is done and doesn't fix it. Um other then that I wouldn't be sure what to do, hopefully someone with more experience then me can help you more.

    Dear Erikbe,
Hi! Kindly go to " Control Panel>system and security>view installed updates and carefully search for a critical update KB 2616676. This update will update some fradulent digital signatures and validates them. If you do not find it in the list, kindly visit this MS site to download the update:Download: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2616676) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

Something may have infected the hosts file to make Microsoft untrusted:
How can I reset the Hosts file back to the default?

Usually, Hosts File corruption will result in an error code and is quite serious as these error codes also indicate system file corruption! That's the reason i did not consider Hosts File to be involved.

    hi,

sfc /scannow completes 100% but then refuses to show me any results and when i try to view the log it generates i get a messagebox saying "access denied" i have kasperski internet security that should stop anything naughty if it doesn't well then they are going to pay :verryangry i'm also an idiot i applied fixit 50528 twice and i see a renamed catdb folder i have no idea what that should be

sreedhav that update is already installed i have a feeling it's because i applied the damned fixit twice also my hostsfile looks fine and internet works normally.

    hi,

It works normal again but now i see 3 folders ?? guess windows restores it back to default after it detects something is wrong can i delete those strange folders ?

edit seems windows 7 needs the catroot2 folder but that other strange one i would like to delete but scared i screw something up again ...... the third folder has no security catalogs (*.cat files) in it just a file called catdb which when i try to open it says it doesn't exist.

You cannot install some updates or programs

hey wait a minute i see *.chk files in that folder.I did have a bsod yesterday and windows asked me to run startup repair.I did and it did say "repairing disk errors" and *.chk files are recoverd files so ....... that gotta be the cause.Normally you can rename those chk fileles to the original but windows recreates the chk files i think it's time for a chdsk or systemrepair

I suggest you run a virus scan with MSE and Malwarebytes, if those don't help, try the ESET or Bit Defender Online Scanner.
