I disabled the Win 7 firewall but not UAC completely - if you completely disable the UAC, you lose "Protected Mode: On" that can be set automagically with a slick little change from one of the Brink tutorials.

My setup is Windows 7 firewall off, COMODO firewall on, MSE on, COMODO virus checking not loaded.

The UAC is set to the second from the bottom.

On install for COMODO, I selected the firewall with Defense Plus (the option listed below the recommended one, as I recall). It is running in Network Defense = "Safe Mode" and Proactive Defense = "Clean PC" mode.

Since I didn't want to run for an extended time without a firewall (even though the router provides some firewall defense) I ran an on-line scan (from Kapersky) before I turned the Windows firewall off and loaded COMODO and did not run the system scan from COMODO.

(I also run WoT to rate sites when I do a search, and WinPatrol to bark when system changes are attempted.)

If you are like me, you WILL be tempted to futz with the default settings. My advice is to run with the defaults for a bit before you throttle things down. I'd recommend only stopping MS Media Player from phoning home as a change, but that's just me not wanting MS to know too much.

Hope this helps.
I always ensure I have the latest copy of comodo and my AV, (avast), and the latest definitions as an off-line installer, prior to an install _the f/w and AV are loaded before I even go on-line - paranoid, Yes - Safe, Yes
