    How to close port 135

I just went to GRC and found that port 135 was open. I have Norton 360 for almost a year and this is the first time I've seen an open port. Any help is appreciated!

Why are you worried about port 135? It's used by the RPC Endpoint Mapper. Here's a list of things that need RPC running correctly in order to function:

Here's what GRC says about port 135:

(Remote Procedure Call) This impossible-to-close port appears in most Windows systems. Since many insecure Microsoft services use this port, it should never be left "open" to the outside world. This port has been exploited to send "Messenger Spam" pop-ups to Microsoft windows users. Since it is impossible to close, you will need a personal firewall or NAT router to block it from external access. Do it soon!

Even if I only had one computer I would still recommend using a good router. My ShieldsUP! report shows full stealth, without any special tweaking on my part. :)

I clicked on the "Get Support" tab and was re-directed to an upgrade. (I didn't think I had to do that manually, shouldn't that be automatic?) After the upgrade finished I went back to GRC and VIOLA! the port is closed.

Everything is good again, no thanks to me!

That's why I don't worry about ports on my computer, because my router takes care of that.

I had to manually configure my (albeit older) Linksys router to close port 135. A Guy
