avast! Free antivirus quit working and will not re-start!! :(

I have had avast! for a few months now and loved it...until a few weeks ago, I noticed that it had stopped working. When I open avast! it says my system is unsecured and to re-start avast. When I click the start now button, it opens a box wanting me to allow avast to make changes to my hard drive. Even after clicking yes, it still won't start. I even tried un-installing avast and it won't let me. Anyone know how I can either fix this or remove it? Not to computer smart when it comes to codes & computer language (so the easier to understand the better )

Pretend your installing it, then select repair.

My thought would be that you have malware that has disabled it

Can you get to Malwarebytes Special Offer! ?

If you can, download (free version) Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop
    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. Copy and Paste that log into your next reply.

Which version of Avast! Free are you using?

If it is not the latest version 7.0.1426 then please download and try to install it. If it is the latest version then either try restoring your computer to an earlier state or restore an image created before the trouble started.

Try this out only in case what has been suggested by Jacee doesn't help.
