Windows 7: avast information

Is the avast firewall not work with windows firewall together? Is it any good? I don't like having the firewall thing saying its off but if turn on my wifi don't work so is it just not work with windows firewall together? should just stick to normal antivirus?

I heard that Microsoft essentialls alone is enough if ur on a protected network? And maybe run anti virus once in awhile?

Does Microsoft essentialls scan email? and downloaded files? is avast nessisery for keeping a labtop safe if you travle with it? thanks



I want bare min so my computer be as stable as possible.

Only one software firewall at a time, other firewalls should be turned off (uninstalled if it's third party).

Only one resident (always on) AV at a time, other resident AV's should be uninstalled.

So, for the typical user, the computer should have:

- only 1 software firewall
- only 1 resident (always running) AV
- whatever other antimalware programs you like to use

Remember that no matter which programs you choose to use, there's always the chance that conflicts will arise. That holds true no matter what kind of program you add, even non-security type apps. A little googling can help you there.

The more active security apps you have, the more conflicts you will have sooner or later.

While I'm sure there's a good chance that's true, I was referring to one single program not getting along with one other single program.

All you really need is the firewall, AV, maybe an antimalware, and along with a little common sense in the use of the mouse's left button, you're good to go. There's no need to keep adding more and more apps on top of it.

best solution is just get a av like mse and use the windows firewall thats' my config problem solved or use avast if you feel like it with the windows firewall and you should be fine.Just have something like malwarebytes as a side tool to remove nasty viruses when it gets past the av of your choice.
