Is it possible to analyse a download for virus's with a program?

,Hey guys I download stuff on the occasion and I would like to get a program that will analyse my downloads before they start. I know my windows firewall automatically does this but I would like something more advanced. Any Ideas?

Microsoft Security Essentials, MSE. Link in my signature.

There are others. Most will check you download for viruses.

I use the browser add-on from Virus Total.

You get this window when you select a file to download.

That looks useful. Its Firefox only isn't it.

I hope it didn't find anything on the latest CCleaner. I installed it yesterday without scanning.
