    nnj925,
Welcome to SF. I would suggest:

Microsoft Security Essentials and then the free version of Malwarebytes.

    Welcome nnj925,

What Anti Virus is your son currently using?

I agree with Alan above re {free} Microsoft Security Essentials & {free} Malarewarebytes.
    They can be downloaded via...

Malwarebytes : Download free malware, virus and spyware tools to get your computer back in shape!

    Update both immediately.

Go for what they recommend. Both AV is awesome and very light.

I'd certainly agree with the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials.

In fact, some people are saying it's that good now you don't even need Malwarebytes, but using both won't do any harm.

Just to clarify matters Use the Microsoft product as the "live" AV and the malwarebytes as an occasional extra scanner in manual mode, it is not advisable to run both "live"

He had a version of Kapkoski (spelling) that came with the computer for like 6 months...then he had bitdefender and it expired...and now with paying for college and all he really was looking for something free.

Go for Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. It's free and good AV also...

    nnj925,

IF you are going to follow our recommendations you should remove all traces of Kaspersky & Bit Defender via their uninstall tools before installing the new programs.
