Windows 7: unable to do any things with hosts file

Dear,

I have installed windows7 home edition on my laptop. I have to enter ip address to access another application through host file but am unable to do any action either update delete or cut this file.

Please help to find out this problem.

Hello welcome to the forums.
Editing the hosts file is pretty straight forward providing you open it from an elevated command prompt (open notepad by right clicking select run as admin then use it to open hosts).
There can be problems occasionally, fortunately ther is a work around in this MS knowledge base article.

Could just drag it to your desktop, edit it then drag it back...works for me every time.
