Accessing Windows XP User folders from Windows 7?

I installed Windows 7 on a different hard drive than Windows XP, and am trying to access my Windows XP "Desktop" folder from Windows 7. It lets me view the files (after a few hurdles), but it doesn't let me open them. Protecting my personal files is a good thing, BUT it doesn't provide the option of using my XP username/password to access them - the whole "\Documents and Settings\[User]" folder is locked. Any way to get around this?
