I had what i thourt was a virus and i reset it to factory settings without baking it upz which wiped it clean. I was unable to work it out so i askt a friends dad to fix it. He did and i got it bak with windows 7 home premium but now its 32 bit. And i cant get any of my programs to work. And if i download something they wont install. This sounds complicated, but a simple answer is do a clean install.

    Clean Install Windows 7

The complication is, you had someone elses Dad do 'something" and now it has different problems. I'd talk to him, but the question arises, do you have the installation DVD for the Windows 7 that came on your PC? Or did this Dad use something he had? the easiet thing would be a clean install, but if the Dad did that, he'd know what he used, etc. A Guy

No i have no disks. thats why i am spewin because i was given the laptop from a friend whos father passed away. So it basically came with the laptop itself and the charger. It was in good working condition and already had windows 7 home premium installed. And activated.. Mcphee norton and all sorts.

I think 'the dad' may have given me a new harddrive?? Is that possible? I was talking to my mum and she said it sounds like he has actually changed the hardware. :-/

Before it crashed i did print out a copy of the systems info. And now When i look at the system info i can see NO difference except the 32bit instead of 64. It also says that my computer is 64bit compatible. Is there a way i can change it back to 64bit? It sounds like to me has actually rebuilt the computer. Because it doesnt have any of the old programs or nothing.. I still have the windows activation product ID from before aswell.

Also when i try to download drivers from hp nothing installs. It downloads but wont install. And all my hp software is gone.

Would it be possible to take it somewere and pay someone to just load evrythnk back on and reinstall windows ect??

It sounds like he just wiped the drive and reinstalled, but the 32 bit version. Can you ask him what he did? It would seem the easy way to get info. If he had a retail OS disk, he could just as easily install x64, but the question of what key he used comes up. It's a tangled web. Suggest you ask him what he did and how, and can he do what you'd like instead. A Guy

Your best bet would be to create a Windows 7 SP1 disk. The link below contains links to download the ISO file for Windows 7. Make sure to get Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 English x64. I also provided I link to a tutorial for making the installation disc. Note that you will need either a blank DVD or a USB flash drive that you can boot from.

For installing, use the tutorial linked below.

Shyrajai I like your method of repair. Break the computer. Through it away and get a new one. Wish you well with your new computer.

Lol this wasnt my repair trust me id much prefer that laptop over this new one i have now actually mayb u can help me (again) i have an Acer Aspire E1-521 it came with Windows 7 Home premium. 64bt. Now its all been installed and im havin a problem with nearly all programs they dont seam to run which was my same problem with my compaq. Am i meant to do something when i download programs? Because evryone i hav downloaded says its not compatible :-/ or once they download it doesnt open at all.

Also when i goninto my list of programs it comes up with my programs so i organize them in date order so i can see all the ones ive downloaded and all the ones before me downloading any myself have a 'size' and mine dont :-/

Im wondering am i meant to disable my norton firewall or antivirus before i download? After download is completed do i have to right click and open as administrator? Or can i go to the program compatibility troubleshooter and make it do them
    All?

I have done the program compatibility troubleshooter and the general outcome is 'incompatible application' even if i run it on a program that was preonstalled. Im so hopeless with this stuff lol
