    Anti-Virus and Malwarebytes

    Hi,

Do I need to disable my AVG anti-virus if I want to scan my PC with Malwarebytes...?

    Thanks, BBDS.

    Boy, welcome to sevenforums.

Though AVG has been known to be a very heavy antivirus (and that isn't a good thing), it will work fine alongside malwarebytes, no problem. You do not need to disable anything.

The reason I say it is heavy is because it hogs resources and performs less than some other free antivirus software. It also has more potential to crash the system than other antiviruses. But if it is working for you, thats fine. Having malwarebytes in addition will be a major upgrade. Just remember to scan every now and again.

WOW, I am surprised free AVG is not a good thing, heavy on resources etc.

It is very popular and highly rated AV, I have been using it for years and thought I got the best free AV.

I guess this whole issue is very confusing - so many experts have so many opinions totally contradicting each other.

    Thank you,
    BBDS.

    Don't be confused by opinions. They usually are just that! {Opinions}

If AVG has worked for you continue to use it.

I use the paid version here on all computers & will continue to do so.

Of course it is an opinion, isn't everything?

If your computer can handle AVG, it isn't a problem. It does happen to be more sluggish than others, however. But perhaps that isn't a selling point for you. Scores pretty high on maleware removal. Seems it has improved recently.

I figure most antivirus softwares are comparable in malware removal, so the more important factor to me would be how it treats your system. As someone who tested AVG in the past, I do not like it. But that is why I said, " But if it is working for you, thats fine." And it is fine. No big deal

Anti-virus software is always an emotive subject as like our cars, we all have our favourites.

If AVG works well for you, just carry on using it.

I just wish though that Microsoft bundled decent anti-virus software with their operating systems as it would cut out the worry about which A/V system to go for.

And AV software makers would go nuts and cry foul.

Nope, I'm fairly certain that some things are facts. At least that's my opinion.
