When I made a password to my harddisk it asked me to save the recovery key somewhere, So.. I saved it inside the hdd and this is the problem
Cause after that, I wanted to enter the harddisk but i couldn'n remembere the password, and of caurse the recovery key is inside the hdd which i can't enter any more without remembering the password
So.. can anybody help me with a solution to this problem pls ?!! I'll be so thankful :)
Drive encryption can really bite some people in the behind.
If there was an easy solution to this problem, there would be no point to encrypting the drive in the first place. So you will either need to remember the key or attempt to brute force guess you way into the box.
you can format your drive to get it usable if you forgot the password.
You an use the GParted Live CD located at: GParted -- Live CD/USB/PXE/HD
WARNING: Formatting your drive will erase everything off of it!
There are programs out there that claim they can recover your files, they cost money though...a Google search will yield results.
I'm sorry to say but unless you saved another recovery file or can remember your password, you can probably kiss your files goodbye. Even with a brute force type method on your drive at the default encryption 128-bit with diffuser, i believe it would take many years on the fastest of computers.
Typically the default save location when encrypting a drive is a USB stick, the encryption wizard strongly discourages saving the files to the encrypted drives. If you format the drive, it will make it even more difficult if not impossible to recover the files. However, if you happen to remember parts of your password or an estimated length in addition to the use of special characters; it could make a brute force attack much easier.
Any chance Recuva would work? I've never tried it in this situation though.
