File Security denies access or bulk update of Owner

Hi, I reloaded my PC with Windows 7 Ultimate and have a second HDD with Video and Music files. I can access the drive but when I try run any of the files i get "access denied", I looked at securities and there is a user S-1-5-21-lots of numbers. I had to go edit and add myself (Admin) as a user. once I save i can then access and run the file. I thought I could do that at a directory level but it keeps coming up with Access Denied. I have thousands of files and cant do a single update. Anyone have an idea how i can fix this please.
