No, this is the process which is used to scan your system for malware and other baddies. This is a process related to Microsoft Security Essentials. Possibly either Windows Defender or the Malicious Software Removal Tool, too (depends on which one you have installed and enabled/disabled on your system)

Long story short, it's nothing to be concerned about

Is it normal for MsMpEng to eat up 25% of the my CPU all the time?
It's not only during scans, it is all the time. Also people told me that it is windows defender but I think it is actually Windows Security Essentials, or is it the same thing?

MsMpEng.exe
Hello Win 7 Home premiuim,i5,1T,3,30GHz I noticed Windows Defener takes up a lot of CPU usage yet the program is turned off by default. I think it is a remnant of a previous os and not useful in Win 7. I also noticed I have to check "show for all users" for it to be displayed. I know it...

svchost.exe and MsMpEng.exe Hogging Resources
Hello, I hope you are doing well. Whenever I check my Windows Task Manager's Processes tab, it looks like svchost.exe and MsMpEng.exe are hogging my system's resources. On average, each of those programs are using approximately 50k to 60k of memory. I know that they are both Windows-related...

MsMpEng.exe = CPU Usage 100%

MSE-MsMpEng.exe
I have read so many posts raving about MSE, that I decided to give it a try. While it has been okay on my primary rig, I'm having a problem with MsMpEng.exe spiking the CPU to 100%. I read one thread elsewhere that said that this was due to some kind of conflict with some other process, but since...
