Every time I logged on to my PC MSE was telling me that I was potentially unprotected...this was eveytime..it never used to be like this...only since the recent secuirty updates on the last patch Tuesday!

Thousands of people have installed those updates and haven't had that problem. This means we can rule out the updates being responsible for your problem.

I'm busy with another problem right now, but I'l ask for others to look at your problem.

Did you have any other security product(s) installed on the machine before you installed MSE? If yes, it's possible (actually, more like probable) that remnants were left behind that have interfered with MSE's proper operation. You may want to go through these two lists of uninstaller tools (some of the tools will be duplicated) and use those for any other products previously installed. First uninstall any product from control panel > programs and features and then use the uninstaller.

Once you've used the uninstaller(s) try reinstalling MSE.

If you have a left over 3rd party firewall it could turn off Windows built in firewall and you will get that warning.

I had a similar problem about a year ago.

I uninstalled MSE and reinstalled and the problem went away.

You might want to look at this FAQ from Microsoft regarding MSE and installation:
