If an antimalware program finds a suspicious file, that file is usually placed in quarantine to give the computer owner an opportunity to determine if the file is a danger or not. (As opposed to known malware which is usually removed right away with no action required by the user.)

Quarantined files are the files that are suspected as infected by a Malware Detection Program and placed in a special zone that is isolated from the rest of the computer so that these files do not infect the other non-infected files. This special zone is called quarantine by most programs or the vault by some of them.

The quarantined files can be safely deleted.
