Windows 7: Latest Version of Malwarebytes

Just some general info (may not apply to everyone.)

I have a lifetime MBAM license. Received my upgrade notice yesterday when I tried to run a routine scan. After accepting the upgrade I was informed that there was a problem with my license. I was given two options to choose from: (1) My license was downloaded from a website; or (2) I purchased my license. I selected option 2 and MBAM gave me a completely new 20 digit license key.

My question is, if I ever have to do a clean install of MBAM Pro using my original installation disk (version 1.75) do I use the original license key or the newest license key to activate and get the latest upgraded version?

That means that your original lifetime license had some sort of issue -- it may have been purchased from a source other than the Malwarebytes online store, and you may have been scammed by an unscrupulous seller (or any of a number of different scenarios).

By contrast, a legal "old" ID and Key should automatically be accepted by the new licensing system upon upgrading to version 2.1.8. IOW, a valid, legit "old" license (ID and Key) will not be "converted" to a "new" Key. The conversion/issuance of a "new" Key is only for "problem" licenses.

The NEW Key (with no ID) is the one that should be used from now on.
So it's VERY important to record and store it some place safe and accessible, in the event that you need to reinstall the program or transfer the license to a different computer.

EDIT: Also, reinstalling from a CD with an old version of the program is neither necessary nor recommended. The more program versions there are since 1.75, the more problematic an on-top upgrade from 1.75 would be.

So, to install MBAM fresh on a system, one would always download the current installer from the product download page, and then ACTIVATE it, as shown here.
For a clean reinstall, the best practices are here: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

Hope this helps,

On two different computer. Updates/Upgrades are always done manually.
Malwarebytes Premium.

One computer while I was on Hulu just dropped it's internet.
Got a notice that the cable to the modem/router was un hooked. They were not.
Rebooted the modem, router and computer and and Updated Malwarebytes and the problem was solved. Because my router and modem are reboot at least once a day I don't think they were the problem.

Because now I new the Upgrade was available for my location I just booted the other computer and went right to Malwarebytes and Upgraded/updated.

Really no problems worth worrying about.
All is well with my systems and Malwarebytes works as it should.

Hi, LBB:

Glad to hear you are updated.

FWIW, as you always update manually, it's hard to imagine how the available MBAM update was in any way related to your loss of network connectivity.

If you have the settings for automatic program updates disabled (Settings > Update Settings > Update Options), then one might reasonably surmise that it was most likely a coincidence.

I suggest rebooting both computers after the 2.1.8 upgrade, even if you are not prompted to do so, especially if you use the Self-Protection module and/or the context menu scanning options.

I always reboot after a Upgrade of anything.
I reboot after many updates of other programs on my system whether ask or not.

Very true it doesn't make sense when I do manual updates/upgrades.
May be my I.S.P. was doing a little maintenance at that time.
That is why I'm not really worried about it. Just thought I would mention it.

Since I installed v. 2.1.8.1057, I have had to right click on the icon in my notification area then left click on Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware instead of just double left clicking on the icon to get a window for running a scan like I used to do. Did the method of opening up a window change with this version or is there a setting I'm missing?

Double click still works for me after upgrading.
