Yes, if you have a VALID, lifetime, MBAM Consumer license for 1 PC purchased from a trusted source (either the Malwarebytes online store or a trusted reseller), then that license remains a lifetime, 1-PC Consumer license.
More info HERE

(If the 1-PC/lifetime license was purchased from ebay, Amazon or other unofficial sources, or if it has been (un)intentionally abused by activating it on more than one computer, then there could be problems. In that case, the only folks who can sort that out would be the Help Desk, by logging a ticket HERE.)
If you have a subscription license for "up to 3 PCs" (sold from March 2014 until August 31, 2015) or a newer, 1-PC subscription license (sold after Sept 1, 2015), then such a license will need to be renewed.

There is now an option (at least for NEW license purchases) to select a 2-year subscription; I'm not sure if the 2-year option applies to renewals, too.
And there is a discount for multiple Consumer licenses purchased at the same transaction.
And, for the moment, as mentioned, there is a current "18-months for the price of 12-months" special HERE.
(I do not work for Malwarebytes and I do not have an financial interest, nor do I know how long the special will run.)

Cheers,
MM

Mbam has had to reset the activation for me a few times already because i have reinstalled numerous times but it's always on the same computer , i only own one computer .

I have asked them repeatedly why they don't have a system that knows what computer you are using it on regardless of how many times uninstalled and re installed .

Like once you activate Win 10 successfully you can re install all you want on that computer and it remembers. Mbam needs this .

They do indeed have such a system.
But, to reduce the chances of fraud and abuse, there is a maximum limit to the number of times one can reactivate a valid license or transfer such a license to another system.

The limits are plenty high for "average" users.
I have reinstalled MBAM several times on all of my rigs over the years and have never ever hit the maximum or had any problems with activation.

Such a limit is pretty much the norm in the software industry (other examples include Adobe and MS), and my own experience with Kaspersky products is the same.
The other security software vendors likely follow a similar practice (IIRC McAfee did, as well, when I used it.)
The upper limit is set to balance the needs of users who -- for whatever reason -- feel the need to reinstall their Windows OS and software every 10 minutes with the need to prevent license abuse and piracy.

TBH, nearly every such instance reported at the MBAM forum involves (un)intentional license abuse or overt piracy or some sort of "cockpit error". (NOTE: I am NOT in any way suggesting that applies to you.)

If you're reinstalling Windows or MBAM very often, then, yes, it's possible you might need to contact the software publisher (in this case Malwarebytes) for assistance with license validation, especially if you do not *deactivate* the license before uninstalling.
That's the trade-off needed to reduce piracy.

Thanks,
MM

Thanks Mike for that info, i didn't know about the 4 activation limit.
Can't rep you right now

I normally restore a system backup image rather than re-install Windows if i have a problem, so i don't have to re-install MBAM or other programs.

I have done the mbam-clean/reinstall SO MANY times trying to fix quirks i found in MBAM, i know it was more than 4 MBAM re-installs, with the same license.
I never had a license activation problem with this.

No problem I learn some thing new through hard knocks almost everyday
Found out on one license that would not activate that did activate 3 day before
Both used the same license on 2 different installs
So I contacted mbam to see what was up and that's when I found out you can use the same license on separate machines it just acts/ counts as another activation :/

Ah, yea, i've only used/activated an MBAM license on the same PC where it was originally installed, and did a mbam-clean.
I haven't tried to use an MBAM license on a different PC.

I have "upgraded" an OS on the same PC such as an "XP-to-Win8" or "Win7-to-Win10" upgrade, and re-installed MBAM with the same "MBAM PC license", no issues here.

I might not have uninstalled MBAM before doing the OS upgrade (or clean install of the new OS).
I think i can browse a Backup Image of the old OS and know for sure.

Hi, all:

Just a bit of clarification, as the licensing model and license control/validation has changed over the years.

There are many types of MBAM Consumer licenses out there now, depending on when and how the license was purchased:
  • 1-PC, lifetime
  • "up to 3 PCs" subscription
  • 1-PC subscription
The bottom line now is this, according to the MBAM Senior Technical Product Manager, @bdubrow: a license may be simultaneously activated on ONLY the number of systems in the same household for which that particular license is authorized. If the license is activated on more systems than the number for which it was authorized, that will lead to error codes and eventually blacklisting of the license.

Each "PC" is actually an Operating System, either on a physical machine (the most common scenario for most, basic home users, hence the use of "PC" terminology), or on a dual-boot, or a VM.
In other words, each OS for a dual boot requires its own activation. The same is true for the host and guest OS in VMs.
So, a 1-PC license -- whether lifetime or subscription -- can only be activated on 1 operating system at a time. An "up to 3 PCs" license may be activated on up to 3 operating systems in the same household at one time.

Lifetime licenses do not need to be renewed. Subscription licenses do require renewal.

As far as moving/transferring licenses and reinstalling on the same system, yes, there has been for some time now a limit on these, to control piracy. It's always best to "deactivate" the license on the old system before transferring the license or reinstalling Windows/MBAM. But, if you do run into a problem reactivating because you reinstall MBAM or Windows often, you will need to contact Support here (with your documentation and license info), to have them reset the count (as I explained here and as some of you have reported).

For *any* license activation/validation issues or questions, it's best to contact Support here (with your documentation and license info). They are the only folks who can sort out those sorts of problems.

I hope this helps a bit,

MM

Yep I was using the key with the real issue during testing of win-10tp so the activations accumulated pretty quickly
Not always possible to deactivate if the disk will not boot
mbam should have a more reliable system to track current/ active installations.
