Hosts file manager for blocking bad sites

I was using Spybot - Search and Destroy 1.6 and SpywareBlaster 4.6 to manage my blacklists and hosts file to keep the spyware from protruding into my system, but then, someone from Crashes and Debugging suggested I shouldn't use those anymore. Is there a different tool that will help manage site blocking by hosts file or by browser blacklisting (Restricted Sites zone, Cookie blocking)?

Not that it matters but the tool has to work on a browser such as Google Chrome because I have that set as my default browser.

    That's not the point.

There was a time when Search & Destroy actually increased security vulnerabilities instead of decreasing them. I do not know if that is still the case, but due to that, I try to stay way from the software and recommend others do the same.

WinPatrol will allow you to lock your HOSTS file and will monitor changes
