it runs one time automatically, every month (because a new one is released every month). You can run it manually whenever you want by going Start > Run > mrt

I pinned the executable file to my start menu. I run it more than once a month along with others. Some say that running during updates (once per month) will suffice, then after that it's obsolete, but how can that be? You can be infected anytime, so running it after that still should help? That's my logic.

I can't understand your reasoning for saying that.

It will run once during the install (some say), but I'm skeptical because when I manually run it the scan takes over an hour to complete. I run all my safety program scans often ... you never know when you'll pick up some nasty. I also pin the executable to my start menu so I don't forget to use it. I may be paranoid but the real issue is whether I'm paranoid enough.

Being paranoid is another layer of security.
