    Brontok Infected.

Alright so I just got infected by a virus named Brontok recently, AGAIN. I know the history about this virus, a female in my country made it but anyway.. I got infected by this virus 3 times now on the first time I managed to remove it by running a .bat command which I compile from gathering info online but I cant remember it now. On my second time I just reinstalled my Windows because I can't be bothered. Now on my third im not planning on reinstalling my windows, because I have tons of games/movies/work files.. so if anyone know how to get rid of it please share.

    Thanks, ordinary anti-virus won't work.

    Structure of Brontok:
    - Whenever opening a folder it creates a fake .exe file with a folder icon named after the folder you opened.
    - After some time it gets annoying and messes up the system file, not sure exactly.

I believe it wrote something on the registry to do all this, Anti Virus could only pick up those fake folder .exe and delete them but eventually they will return. So does anyone know any good software to fix the system registry?

Download the removal tool: Win32.Brontok.A@mm Removal Tool

Also, read why you keep getting re-infected, described on that page.

For some reason the download link on that web page is dead, file is gone.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever open a random .exe file without first scanning it properly. I'd also advice you to google search the term "___.exe virus" before ever launching an unknown executable from a suspicious source (i.e. why would your friends email you a single .exe file).

Do both of these things and you will avoid the vast majority of viruses out there.

I never ran any of those .exe files, I know enough about those kinds of files. Brontok just spreads through home network, I got it from my little brothers computer when I was copying a game, I knew I would get infected but I know that I could defeat this virus easily.

Anyway, I downloaded that link you posted Mark earlier when Jacee link wasn't working. It scanned my computer and explains what the virus does. Not sure if its working, not seeing any fake .exe so far.

You can also try running this tool:

Norton Power Eraser | Free Tool |Easily remove scamware that traditional virus scanning can

Because Norton Power Eraser uses aggressive methods to detect threats, there is a risk that it can select some legitimate programs for removal. You should use this tool very carefully. If you accidently remove a legitimate program, you can run Norton Power Eraser to review past repair sessions and undo them.
