    Just do a little homework and Google rootkit. Their will be lots of information for you. It will help you understand things better.

    Okay I am currently trying out some rootkit removal software. Here are the results:
    TDSSKiller: No threats found. It doesn't check the winsxs folder.
    Sophos virus removal tool: No threats found.
    GMER:

    I guess there's not much point in using any other programs to check. I'm not trying to say that I don't think it's there, just showing the results of the scan.

    Okay, I'm home now. I ran a scan using Avast of the winsxs folder and it returned with no threats detected. I am running a full system scan. I think it's possible that this computer isn't infected, despite me swapping files between the two computers. Remember, the reason I found out about the virus in the first place was due to Avast.

On my 7 VM the winsxs folder is taking up ~15 gb of space which is way too much for a 40 gb drive. Is there a way to shrink it? I have less than 10 gb free, the windows folder is taking up 85% of that and winsxs is taking up 52% of that according to WinDirStat. I don't have many programs installed...
