    Windows Firewall not working

Hi I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and my windows firewall will not work. I just click use recommended settings and it freezes for a while and then does nothing. I have tried Microsoft fix-its, registry fixes, and have been researching and trying methods all day, none have worked. The firewall service has not been started and when I try and start it it gives me an error of "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall on Local Computer. For more information, review System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 5.". I recently uninstalled and removed AVG Internet Security and have used the remover they provide. Thanks

    See if this works:

    Download both the registry files

    bfe.reg

    firewall.reg

Launch and import them to registry

    Restart your PC

    Now,open RUN and type

    regedit and click ok

    go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE

    Right click on it-permissions

    Click on ADD and type

    Everyone and click ok

    Now Click on Everyone

Below you have permission for users

Select full control and click ok

    Now,open RUN and type

    services.msc and click ok

start base filtering engine service and then windows firewall service

    Good luck

I still cannot start the firewall service and get this error when trying to: " Windows could not start Windows Firewall on local Computer. See event log, if non-windows services contact vendor. Error code 13." I also cannot start the firewall as it still freezes for a second and then does nothing. I have tried all the solutions you all gave me.

You very well might be infected. If I was in your situation I would run this as per instructions.
    Windows Defender Offline
When you get a clean bill of health I would run from the cmd prompt/admin sfc /scannow 3 times booting after each.
That will allow Windows 7 System File Checker to check and repair its own files if possible.
