Thanks Danny, that answers the question i wasn't sure of.

I've installed MSE for some people, but did not set up a scheduled task for updates.
I may re-visit some of those machines and add a task, just to keep definitions "more current".
I would like to know what others are doing though. In my opinion 1 update out of 10+ a day doesn't seem enough but I suppose it depends on what the updates contain. Microsoft clearly believe 1 is enough though

Yea, I'm curious too why so many more updates.
One thing i always thought interesting is Malwarebytes updates definitions 4-9 times per day.
The last time I used Windows Defender (Malware protection) the definition updates were 1 every few days.

Maybe MS has become more pro-active updating Anti-Malware definitions?
Windows Defender is essentially the Anti-Malware component of MSE (AV/AM), right?

Guess it would be interesting to know if someone that uses Windows Defender sees a lot more definition updates now...

I have not set up any scheduled task to get updates--I just take whatever the default is.

I never go to Windows Update to get definitions and never manually update.

I'm currently on 1.135.840, timed at 3:07 PM Sept 9.

I've had 7 updates in September.

I had 22 in August and 25 in July.

Never a day with 2 updates; and an occasional day with no updates.

Why does MS not categorize MSE definition updates as important??
I have been meaning to post about this for some time. I don't understand why MS categorizes Microsoft Security Essentials updates as "optional". These should be rated important or critical. Is everyone else using MSE experiencing this also - Or am I missing something in my update settings?

Automatic Definition Updates for MSE
I have read that you can use windows update to automatically update the definitons on MSE. Is this true? If so how do I get it to work? I have it set to install updates everyday at a certain time but it never seems to do so. Say my pc is not on during that time when I do turn it on will it then...
