preventing autorun from executing?

I'm trying to prevent a possibly infected external hard drive from running its autorun file on my system. The drive has not been connected to my computer yet.

I downloaded 'Panda USB Vaccine' to prevent this on initial connection; but I'm still not sure if I can safely "double-click", transfer, or peek around inside the drive, without accidentally activating autorun in the process? That could totally defeat the purpose of the Panda program.

Hello Curious Mew,

You can use the tutorial below to completely block autorun.inf files before connecting it.

Autorun.inf Files - Completely Block

Just be sure to scan the HDD before opening it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Brink, I posted this thread through Tapatalk, and for some reason Tapatalk never sent me any notifications of your reply, so I didn't think anyone responded. I'm sorry I couldn't reply faster, I really do appreciate your comment.

While Tapatalk was keeping quiet.. I did manage to find help elsewhere, and I actually used the Microsoft Fixit 50471 tool found here. I combined this with Autorun Eater as a backup method, which also disables Autoplay. Hopefully this will help somebody else with the same problem, it worked like a charm.
