    Unknown Virus Disables Bitdefender

I have Bitdefender Total Internet Security installed.

I have run MSE scan, Microsoft malware scan and Malwarebytes scan and all come back clear.

BUT, my Bitdefender on-demand scanner will not turn on and my live protection is disabled. Also, when I try a deep scan, it will not complete due to unknown error.

I'm thinking a virus of some kind infected my computer but how can I find it?

    I have a Windows 7 HP computer.

    Hi,

It sounds more like a corrupt BitDefender installation..........have you tried uninstalling, and then reinstalling, it? Be sure to uninstall MSE before reinstalling BitDefender.

Yes I have. And it still persists.

I've decided I'm most likely going to do a clean install on Windows 7 on my machine. Now I am just wondering if the clean install from USB will erase the content on my 2nd physical hard drive. It's not a partition and I plan on loading the OS onto my C: drive. I'd hate to have to move all my files onto an external hard drive.

    Thanks for your response.

    Hi,

Best practice is to disconnect the 2nd hard drive (the one with the data), and then perform the clean install/ Once you installation is complete, simply reconnect the 2nd hard drive again.

Follow this to guide you in the best practice for re-installation:

    Clean Install Windows 7

    or

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I would disconnect the hard drive. I just don't know how.

Now I'm getting BSOD associated with iastor.sys every 10 minutes or so. I can't even through restoring my iPhone to iOS6 without it giving me the BSOD. It just started today.

I'm pretty sure that if I restore using the DVD, it won't touch my second hard drive. My fingers are crossed.
