    AV-Test Institute - 2011 awards presented Feb, 2012

After viewing the AV-Test Institute (AVTI) results, I might consider changing my AV software once again. I've used almost every verndor's solution at one point or another. Note that their testing methodology is based on XP systems.
edit: Thanks Hopalong for pointing out other testing

Over the past 3 or 4 years, I've been using the FREE solutions from AVG or Avast (current protection). Both provide excellent protection and are well regarded in reviews. But according to this report - both are middle of the road. I guess that's a fair price to pay for free.

Is AV-Test Institute a reliable resource? The security vendors think so - they post the awards from AVTI on their pages.

I'm still learning where to place stuff. I think I posted something in the general security section before and read that if it didn't involve solving an issue - it belonged in the security news section. I'll figure it out some day
    - thanks for moving it.

The column heading/sort option isn't all that clear. If your sort by protection (left of text label) Avast is a solid middle. Usabilty bumps the overall rating up. But yeah, I've been happy with it. Thanks for the win7 info - i hadn't looked that deep.
