Solved Windows Firewall service will not start, Error Code 5: Access Denied

Hey guys,
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
I can not start Windows Firewall, Diagnostic Policy Service, Diagnostic Service Host, or Diagnostic System Host. When I try and start them manually in services.msc, it gives me Error Code 5: Access denied. Both BFE and Windows Firewall Authorization driver are running. I am logged in as an administrator, and I have already allowed full control of these services for the Administrator accounts and the user "SYSTEM" in Regedit. If you need more information, please let me know. This is my first post, so I don't know if there is any other information that you need. Thanks!

OR

Go to BFE in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BFE

and then click on Add and typed in the space "Everyone" and save the changes. Then go to services.msc and start up the BFE service .

Thanks for the reply, but i'm not sure you understand my problem. BFE is and has been started and running. It's just that Windows Firewall is not. The Fixit didn't help either.

Hey again Alikhan,
Thanks again for the reply. However, I tried this solution as well, but I still get an Error 5 upon attempting to start Windows Firewall. Just like before, BFE started with no problem. Everyone has permission to start Windows Firewall in Regedit, but it still gives me an Error 5. Any other ideas as to why this might be happening?

Hey Kilaung try this tweak ....

Run-services.msc-base filtering engine: double click-make sure u have the local service, and empty password under LOGIN button. do the same on windows firewall in services. then go to regedit Some services do not start in Windows Vista and Windows 7 do that AND!!!! give another user to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services user must be called: NT Service\bfe with full control! Then you can start bfe, and then you can start that firewall in services.msc!

Hope this helps :)

Try this repair tool ...I hope it works. :)
It registers pretty all system components related in any way to security and firewall settings, also it re-creates all rules and rights for dirs and registry keys.

Hi again Alikhan!
That program you linked me to, tweaking.com, solved my problem. I ran a few of the fixes included inside and restarted, and now Windows Firewall starts automatically upon startup again. Thanks a lot for your help!
